Time in nature serves as the main inspiration for my art.  Whether across an ocean or in a nearby conservancy, I hike and look quietly in each environment, seeking images.  Sometimes I take a photo that becomes the direct source of a painting; sometimes the subject comes from a different perspective experienced in the outdoors.  Scientists find that appreciating your surroundings in nature allows the brain to access areas of insight and new ideas.  I find this true for me. A walk in a park, without a cellphone, calms my mind and boosts creativity.
